Surrendering into Newness This Sunday we continued our December journey with a talk called “Surrendering into Newness.” We explored what it really means, in a Science of Mind way, to let an old “skin” fall away so something truer can emerge. I shared about turning 60 and looking back at the “rings” of my life, like the rings of a tree. Some seasons were lush and full, others tight and difficult, but every ring holds wisdom. The invitation now is not to drag old December patterns into this next ring – the over-doing, people-pleasing, and pretending – but to bless those chapters and choose differently. We also lit our Advent candles for Hope and Peace, remembering that peace isn’t when everything around us is calm; peace is knowing we are held even when life is messy. Your homework this week is simple: choose one old December story you’re ready to retire. Please write it down. Turning on the Light of Faith - I turn on the light of faith, and my next step is clear. Diwali’s glow is still fresh, and next Sunday we honour Día de los Muertos. Even our clocks “fall back,” gifting us a pause to remember what’s true: darkness isn’t a power to fight; it’s only the absence of light. In Science of Mind, faith is how we turn the light on. I’m thinking of two images. One: a foggy night drive. My headlights don’t reveal the whole road—just enough to keep moving. Faith works like that: sufficient light for the next faithful step. Two: a tiny seedling pushing through a sidewalk crack. It doesn’t battle the dark; it uses it—a womb, not a tomb—growing toward light with tender strength. Ernest Holmes reminds us that faith is the beacon that lights where we are and lights the way forward. When we forget, the world looks darker than it is.
